Broken Flowers
***** A study of middle-age and the regrets that come with it. Bill follows up his great mid-life crisis role in Lost in Translation, and he's the perfect fit for this part too. Just enough comic edge, while being thoughtful. In fact these two movies together show Bill's range, and really makes me wonder why comedian training school is churning out some of our time's best actors. As for the flick it's a very tight story with a great supporting cast that masks itself in a mystery with shades of comedy thrown in. Very enjoyable, but I can see anyone under 35 could be left scratching their heads or bored out their minds. Hence Flowers has limited appeal for audiences, but it's a fine, fine, film. One of Jarmusch's best. Highly recommended. |
