Capote
*****
I think this was one of the best films of the year, and the performance by Hoffman just stellar. I think it's very rare when one actor picks up a movie and carries the whole bloody thing on their back as Hoffman does here. He's in every scene and is the linchpin holding the movie together. A staggering feat in my book. If he didn't provide the complexity and contradiction of Capote's character as he did the whole thing would have fallen in the crapper. As for the movie it's a little slow on pacing, like a novel oddly enough, but it really is disturbing as we get chance a look into the souls of two men and find neither substance or redemption. Highly, highly, recommended. |
