Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

****

There's no replacing Gene Wilder's role as Willy. Period. ... And to their credit Depp, Burton, and company didn't even try. ... I could see Depp's Willy donning a Batman outfit someday. Mr. Wayne and Wonka should at least go bowling occasionally. And that's what we get here, a character study of Wonka, that the first movie only hinted at. And it's Depp who delivers this manic, isolated character to the screen.  So I highly recommend Edward Scissor -- Oh wait a minute. Wrong movie! But then again, not really. The nerves Wonka touches are very much like the ones Edward did. Throw on a Burton happy ending-- Charles Dickens is spinning in his grave by the way Mr. Burton-- and you have a very different type of remake. It's kind of a remake within a remake, that they changed-- alot. ... Still darkness appeals to me, and this is one of the watchable Burton films I can recommend. If anyone should have made this movie it was Burton and Depp.
