Lord of War

*****

I'm not a huge Nicholas Cage fan but L.O.W I think is his best role, and one of the more important films of 05'. (A great investment tip? Bullets) Money makes the world go round but guns and bullets keep assholes in power. And there will always be some other asshole to sell them the means for slaughter to maintain their grip on the throats of their countries. But the movie also highlights a very important time in history and the ripples from that event. Namely, the downfall of the USSR, and the following tag sale of its weapons that soon spread themselves over the world's many civil wars and would-be coups. The story is sharp, and Cage brings a homeliness to it that almost makes us want him to succeed, but it's this connection he achieves with his performance that really brings out the spiraling and destructive path that threatens his character and the world. It's a messy movie with no easy answers. Hopefully it will outrage enough folks to make the changes needed before we all shoot each other. Required Viewing.
